Today, for class, us students went to a shelter for homeless people. Equipped with our cameras and lights, we set up a mini studio and took portrait photos of the guys. It was fun, for both them, and us. Just about all of them don’t have any photos of themselves and you can see what it does for them to hold that picture in their hands. It might seem like something so small but I’m sure it’s bigger – in going a long way to giving them back a bit of normality. Yes, to feel ‘normal’.
It’s also a great opportunity to share Jesus’ love. Maybe with words. But probably more powerfully without. I’d like to do more of this. In fact, I’d love to make a career out of doing something like this. I feel like it’s a win-win situation. I love taking pictures so I’d love a job where the photos I take are blessing people – physically or spiritually.
Three years ago, soon after acquiring my SLR camera, I was in a small town in foothills of the Himalayas in northern India called Manali. I took some great photos of the kids in the area I was staying in. I’ve taken photos of people in other places but there’s something that stood out for me about this place. And something that has stayed with me about the people. It’s been a thought of mine to go back to those same houses and give the families these photos. Besides the obvious joy I’m sure this would bring, who knows what God could do through this, me being equipped with an open and willing heart. Again, this could be a great job/ministry.
Yeah, so as I’ve been taught and reminded so much in the last few months in video school and now – media is so influential. It is the new ‘church’. Us earthen vessels must stay plugged in to Our Father and He can do wondrous things.
